Teaching packs

Ideas for teachers to build on - free, downloadable lesson materials that put a textual witness and a piece of material evidence side by side, and ask what each can honestly support. Adapt the routes, groupings and timings below to your own class and scheme of work.

Each pack is a starting point, not a finished, tested programme: a lesson plan or teacher guide, a pupil worksheet, and teacher notes or an answer key, combined into one colour PDF. Sourcing, model answers and a SEND/access route are included throughout. Print, adapt the wording, and use what fits your room.

Scroll & Stone: comparing sources

Pupils weigh a short biblical narrative about King Jehu against the Black Obelisk of Shalmaneser III, then test a local-page interpretation of a Huqoq synagogue mosaic against what the excavation report actually supports. Includes a reduced oral/large-print/scribe route.
