The day
On Yom Kippur the whole service was the High Priest's: five immersions and ten sanctifications, gold garments for the outer service and white linen for the inner; the bull with its two confessions, the two goats and the lots, the incense within the veil, the blood sprinkled one up and seven down, the goat sent to the cliff by the ish iti, the reading in the Court of Women, the Musaf, and at nightfall the daughters of Jerusalem dancing in the vineyards. The city fasts; there is no market.
Reconstruction follows Mishnah Yoma and Middot, Josephus and the archaeology of the Herodian platform; details are stylised.
